Training Overview: Suicide Prevention and Vicarious Trauma Awareness

This half-day workshop is designed to equip participants with practical skills to:

  • Recognise signs of suicidal ideation in others, including verbal, behavioral, and situational indicators.
  • Respond compassionately and effectively, using a trauma-informed and person-centered approach that fosters trust and encourages help-seeking behavior.
  • Support safety planning, helping individuals identify protective factors, coping strategies, and sources of support.
  • Understand vicarious (secondary) trauma, exploring the emotional and psychological impact of supporting people who have experienced trauma or distress.
  • Build resilience and self-care strategies to mitigate the effects of vicarious trauma and maintain wellbeing in support roles.

The training is tailored for those working with seafarers, fishers, and their dependants, acknowledging the unique challenges faced in maritime communities.
