MiFi project

Posted on 9th May 2019

The MiFi project was launched on May 1st 2019. It uses MiFi technology (wireless routers that act as a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot) to provide seafarers in UK ports with a strong and secure network.

When visiting port chaplains and ship visitors from; Aberdeen Seafarers Centre, Apostleship of the Sea, Fishermen’s Mission, Liverpool Seafarers Centre, Queen Victoria Seamen’s Rest, Sailor’s Society, Seamen’s Christian Friend Society (SCFS) and Mission to Seafarers visit UK Ports they will be able to offer seafarers a chance to contact their families and friends back home on a secure Wi-Fi network.

This project is funded by ITF Seafarers Trust and the MNWB is managing the project on their behalf.

So far we’ve received some wonderful photos and videos from port chaplains around the UK showing seafarers putting the units to good use. If you’d like to send us a photo or tag us please contact us on social media via; Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
