We are delighted to announce that the Merchant Navy Welfare Board and the Defence Medical Welfare Service (DMWS) are joining forces on a pilot project to provide Merchant Navy personnel and fishers enhanced welfare support when in hospital.
The DMWS have specialist professional Welfare Officers located in hospitals in various parts of the country who will support individuals and their families at times of medical need.
The Welfare Officers provide both practical help and psychosocial support to anyone going through emergency procedures or planned admissions. They can also direct patients to other sources of support following their stay in hospital.
The pilot project will be launched in January 2020 and will sit alongside and complement our other welfare provision such as Fishermen’s Mission as an additional specialist area of support. Details to follow….watch this space!
