We held our inaugural MNWB UK Port Welfare Conference on the 4 th , 5 th and 6 th September at the Chilworth Manor Hotel in Southampton. This was the first conference of its kind entirely dedicated to the provision of front-line welfare services for seafarers and fishers. Over 80 delegates attended including the Heads of Societies, PWC Chairmen, Port Chaplains, and Seafarers’ Centre Managers as well as many volunteers. Items on the agenda included modern slavery, updates on mental health and wellbeing services for seafarers, understanding the culture of Chinese seafarers as well as updates on MNWB projects.
Congratulations to Reverend Peter Paine who was awarded the MNWB Annual Award for Services to Seafarers’ Welfare in recognition of the many years of exceptional support and service he has given to seafarers visiting Great Yarmouth, and his selfless devotion to their welfare during the limited time they have ashore. Thank you again to our speakers for taking time out of their busy schedules to attend and present at our Conference and for their contribution to another successful and thoroughly enjoyable MNWB Conference. Thank you also to all the delegates for attending who travelled from all across the country including from Gibraltar and Canada!
