UK Port Welfare Vehicle Replacement Project

Blessing the new Apostleship of the Sea port welfare vehicle in Milford Haven

Following discussions and much collaboration between the maritime funding charities and the main seafarers' welfare societies, the MNWB created the UK Port Welfare Vehicle Replacement Project.  The project involves over 80 vehicles owned by 11 charitable organisations providing welfare services to seafarers around UK ports and is funded by the ITF Seafarers' Trust, MNWB, Seafarers UK and Trinity House.  Maximum grants of £8,000 for cars, £11,000 for MPVs and £15,000 for minibuses are awarded by the funders.  Phase One (2008/2009) of the project has been completed with the replacement of 19 vehicles and Phase Two (2009/2010) is currently underway.  The maritime charities have signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the 5 year project and participants pay a minimum 20% contribution toward the cost of any new vehicle.
