| Objectives / History | The Royal Merchant Navy School Foundation is an educational charity assisting the children of British merchant seafarers when, as a result of death or other misfortune, their parents, or the legal guardians, cannot fully provide for their educational needs. The Trustees select children to become Foundationers when: - 1. A parent served as a British merchant seafarer in any capacity and (a) died whilst serving afloat or elsewhere during the time of their service; or (b) was required to leave the industry as a result of sickness or injury; or (c) was widowed and unable to make suitable arrangements for the upbringing and/or maintenance of the children in full time education. 2. Died whilst serving as a crew member of a lifeboat of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution. Further information and application forms can be obtained from the Foundation's office. |
