| Objectives / History | The Mission to Seafarers is a voluntary society of the Anglican Church, which cares for the spiritual and practical welfare of seafarers of all races and creeds in over 300 ports around the world. It works through a network of full time chaplains and staff in major ports and part time chaplains in others who visit seafarers on their ships or in hospital, and offer friendship, practical and spiritual support and help in emergencies. As part of the Anglican Church its chaplains can liase with the clergy in inland parishes to provide a link between seafarers and their families in times of crisis and distress. The society also runs centres in over 100 major ports around the world where seafarers can relax away from their ships and meet local people. Services include international telephones, chapel, shop, video and book exchanges, local information, recreational facilities, transport to and from ships, councelling and advice on all kinds of problems. The facilities provided by other denominations, are listed in the handbook on the International Christian Maritime Association (ICMA) of which The Mission to Seafarers is a member. Publications: Flying Angel News, quarterly newspaper on the society's work The Sea, bi-monthly newspaper for seafarers Directory annual details of worldwide network |
