| Objectives / History | Since the granting of its first Royal Charter in 1514, the Corporation of Trinity House, a fraternity of mariners, both Royal and Merchant Navy, has had as its primary interests in the safety and welfare of mariners. The Corporation's Registered Charities are wholly dedicated to maritime matters. They embrace a wide range of maritime matters and include care of the elderly, education in seamanship, the safety and welfare of mariners and their dependants, the advancement of safe navigation and public awareness of the nations maritime importance. Trinity Homes - The Trinity Homes at Walmer, Kent provide warden-assisted, self-contained retirement accommodation for needy mariners, their wives/widows and dependant children. Applicants must normally, not be less than 60 years of age, be a British subject, have at least 15 years as a Navigating, Engineer or Radio Officer or Purser and be able to demonstrate financial need. Scholarship Cadet Training Scheme - Scholarships are awarded to enable cadets to qualify as Deck or Engineer Officer in the Merchant Navy. Training and scholarships are normally of 3-4 years duration. Charitable Grants - Grants are available for registered charities whose aims and objectives are compatible with those of Trinity House, i.e. for the advancement of education, safety and welfare of mariners or safety of shipping generally. Grants are normally only considered for capital projects and there must be evidence of financial need. |
