Objectives / History Includes the Leith Aged Mariners’ Fund

The Society is an interdenominational organisation serving the international seafaring community.

Methods

The ministry is conducted by an international network of full-time, auxiliary and honorary Chaplains.

Some of the many services our Chaplains provide are: Ship visiting; counselling; spiritual guidance; hospital visits; prison visits; conducting a full range of Christian services, including funerals and the scattering of ashes at sea; transportation of seafarers and providing assistance, support, welfare and care in a variety of situations.

The Society, including its locally incorporated bodies, operates in around 100 ports and 30 countries.

Our Seafarers Centres provide: accommodation; currency exchange; refreshments; telephone and fax facilities; postal services; transportation; recreation; and paperback and video libraries.

The Society operates Sir Gabriel Wood's Mariners' Home in Greenock serving retired seafarers and their spouses/widows. This provides sheltered housing and a care home which also has a specilised dementia unit.
