| Objectives / History | To provide financial assistance for older seafarers and/or their dependants in need. Seafarers should have a minimum service of 20 years unless retirement is due to ill health or permanent unemployment. War service counts as double. Regular and one-off grants are available only for those from the Merchant Navy, who also have priority for accommodation. Consideration is also given to accommodation needs for those from the Royal Navy. The accommodation is for those aged 60 and over with 20 years service. Accommodation for retired seafarers, wives and widows consists of 104 houses, bungalows and flats in the Mariners' Park Estate. NUMAST Mariners' Park Care Home, also located within the estate, provides full nursing and residential care for 32 elderly seafarers and dependants. |
