Annual allocations
MNWB GRANTS AWARDED 2006/7
The Boards priority is to provide services to its Constituents for example training, evaluation studies, projects etc. Thereafter any surplus funds can be made available for grants. These are decided at the end of each year via the MNWB grant application process. The Boards annual deadline for grant applications is 1st September, following which each grant is considered on merit taking into account the overall level of need. At the end of last year the Council of Management awarded grants totalling £331,938, the largest allocation of funds to date. These were as follows:
- Apostleship of the Sea, Great Britain
- £19,600 - Contribution towards replacement vehicles at Felixstowe, Immingham, North Tees and Portbury.
- £2,000 - Provision for building work for a new Mission Room in Teignmouth Port.
- £9,250 - Contribution towards a communications & resource facility in Portsmouth Commercial Port
- ACO/OBFA
- £2,000 - Contribution towards Joblinks Website
- Church of Scotland, Invergordon
- £4,000 (max) - Provision of seafarers phone kiosks/internet facilities in the Church Hall.
- British & International Sailors’ Society
- £4,000 (max) Refurbishment of building for a new seafarers’ centre in Montrose, Scotland.
- Erskine Hospital
- £2,000 - Contribution towards the purchase of physiotherapy and speech therapy equipment
- Fishermen’s Mission
- £8,000 - Contribution towards cars in Brixham and Grimsby.
- Merchant Seamen’s War Memorial Society (Springbok)
- £60,000 - Contribution towards installation of a passenger lift in the residential accommodation annexe.
- Mission to Seafarers
- £36,790 - Contribution towards the cost of replacement vehicles in Scotland, South Tees, North Tees, South Shields, Great Yarmouth and Belfast.
- Sailors’ Families’ Society
- £27,843 - Contribution towards the replacement of IT hardware and software for office administration.
- Scottish Veterans’ Residences
- £20,000 - Contribution towards renovation of Rosendael Home, Dundee.
- Seafarers’ Centres UK & Gibraltar
- £15,000 (max.) - Provision for additional IT equipment at the discretion of the Board.
- £15,000 (max.) - Provision of widescreen TV’s at the discretion of the Board and with the endorsement of the managing society.
- Seaham Seafarers’ Centre
- £5,500 (max.) - Provision of oil-fired central heating system.
- Seamen’s Christian Friend Society
- £13,440 - Contribution towards people-carrier for work in Scotland.
- Sir Gabriel Woods Mariner’s Home
- £26,715 - Provision of the refurbishment of the Games and Board Room (£6,000) and provision of specialist bath unit (£20,715).
- Telephones in Various Locations in UK Ports
- £20,000 (max.) - Provision of telephones in outside location in UK ports the discretion of the Board.
- Tilbury International Seafarers’ Centre
- £40,000 - Contribution towards the setting up of the new seafarers’ centre.
- The Watch Ashore
- £800 - Setting up of a website which would be of benefit in supporting the wives and partners of seafarers and recruiting new members
